So, on our nearly cancelled Molten Core fun run last night, the Leaf finally dropped. After a squeal of delight, I ran to do the epic hunter quest forthwith, and was rewarded with my much-sought-after Rhok’Delar and my Lok’DelarScreen shot 2009-09-15 at 9.22.54 PMThe animation for the bow is nifty, you get this mushroom and flower sprouting thing every few seconds. And, even better, I DON’T HAVE TO RUN MC ANYMORE!

You remember in PCU, that Jeremy Piven movie, when the guy sees the scene that becomes his thesis, and screams “I CAN STOP WATCHING TV!!!!!”

That’s what I feel like.

Congratulations! I know exactly how you feel :)

I was lucky enough (really lucky, apparently) to obtain both the Leaf and the Sinew on my first Onyxia and MC Runs (this was before Burning Crusade came out), but it took me many months to actually defeat all 4 Demons.

Artorius in Winterspring was easy (for me) and took just 3 attempts. My first Kite I got too far ahead and lost Aggro, the second Kite I got too close, was Demonized and killed, but like Baby Bear’s Bowl of Porridge the third Kite was juuuuuust right :)

Un’Goro’s Simone was my second victim and she took several attempts over quite a few weeks. At one point I had a couple of Guildies come with me and buff me, but even then I still wasn’t successful. I finally took her down after a long Kite around the southern edge of the crater. It was still touch and go when I aggroed a Dino at the same time as Simone and her Pet caught up to me. Thank Orion I’d done enough damage during the Kite that even in Melee and outnumbered 3-to-1 (NOT a winning situation for a Hunter) I was still able to finish Simone off. To add tension to the encounter I died literally a heart beat later without getting a chance to Loot her. By now our bodies were in the south-west corner of Un’Goro and with the GY on the eastern edge it was a looooong spirit run back to Rez, but Orion be praised her body was still there and lootable! 2 Demons down, 2 to go.

Solenor was next and that was a tough & frustrating encounter that I found myself redoing time & time again. If it wasn’t Solenor or his insect swarm, it was one of Silithus other many bugs that just had to get involved. I’d clear the area first but with respawns you can only do so much, so when Solenor finally fell I let out a huge sigh of relief, even though Klinfran still waited for me in the Burning Steppes.

Per the guides, I’d attempted to Melee Klinfran but that is NOT my strong point and after dying to Klinfran more than a few times I’d given up on him and returned to Silithus. I’m a Hunter, I don’t do Melee; what I am good at is Kiting. I am VERY good at Kiting, and that was how I defeated all 4 Demons.

I made several attempts on Klinfran but I was constantly running out of Mana. I had to time my Serpent Stings so Klinfran didn’t remove them straight away when he enraged, but I also needed to Arcane Jump Shot him to maintain Aggro, and between those two Shots I was burning through my Mana very quickly. I tried getting Mana Regen Buffs from Guildies but it still seemed impossible. With 3 Demons down Rhok’delar was so close yet so far away.

Then BC came out and with it a lot of MP5 gear, food, etc. I leveled a couple of times but kept my eye out for any gear with lots of Int and MP5 buffs.

I was level 63 when I returned to the Burning Steppes and it wasn’t really a fair fight this time, either, but this time I had the upper hand. Klinfran chased me across the Burning Steppes and halfway back again as I constantly peppered him with Arcane Shots and even the occasional Autoshot when I had the time. If you want to know how long the Kite really was, head over to Franklin’s spawning spot, put on Aspect of the Cheetah, run all the way back along the path to Morgan’s Vigil, literally to the path leading up to the camp itself, then run halfway back again to Blackrock Spire. That was how long it took to Kite Klinfran to his death.

If you enjoy reading fan fiction, I wrote a story based on my Kite of Klinfran which you can read on my Blog here: http://capnjohnsblog.blogspot.com/2007/03/kwazimoto-and-demon.html
